Based on creator feedback, we're increasing the duration limit for Shorts. Starting on 15 October 2024, you can upload Shorts up to three minutes long.
Here's what you need to know about some of the changes coming:
Creating and monetising one- to three-minute Shorts
Any videos that you upload before 15 October 2024 will stay the same and remain as long-form videos on your channel, even if they're in a vertical orientation. If you're currently in the YouTube Partner Programme, these videos will continue to monetise via watch page ads.
After 15 October 2024, you can upload Shorts up to three minutes long using square or vertical videos via the YouTube Studio app or desktop.
Right now, you won't be able to make Shorts longer than 60 seconds using the Shorts tools. We are working on these updates and we'll let you know when they're ready.
It will take a few weeks for us to update all of the places where Shorts appear, like channel pages, Home and the watch next recommendations. This means that if you upload new one- to three-minute Shorts, you may not see them labelled as Shorts within your channel page straight away or see any traffic in YouTube Analytics from Shorts.
We will keep you posted when Shorts over 60 seconds start being recommended and displayed within channel pages.
